Venezuela opposition candidate granted asylum in Spain Former Venezuelan opposition presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez has fled into exile after being granted asylum in Spain. "This was brokered partly through the former prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero ... it was his [Gonzalez] idea to seek asylum in Spain," FRANCE 24's Sarah Morris said, citing the Spanish foreign minister José Manuel Albares Bueno and left-wing newspaper El País.
