Paying the price of climate change: Louisiana's insurance crisis Since the storms of 2020 and 2021, many insurance companies have left the US state of Louisiana or gone bankrupt. Those that remain have increased their rates five-fold in some cases. The poorest homeowners are now unable to pay the insurance needed for their mortgage.
