'Nail in the coffin': Poland's ruling party has 'effectively alienated most allies' in recent years Germany said Wednesday it would step up policing of its borders with Poland and the Czech Republic, in a bid to get a grip on rising levels of illegal migration. The surge in arrivals has reignited the immigration debate in Germany, put pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government and caused tensions with European neighbours facing their own influx. With Germany tightening Polish and Czech border checks and migrant numbers rising, FRANCE 24's François Picard is joined by Radoslaw Markowski, Professor of Political Science at the Polish Academy of Sciences and Director of the Center for the Study of Democracy at the Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities.
