Alabama's conservative lawmakers seek to restrict use of IVF Since the 2022 repeal of Roe v. Wade, which had federally protected the right to abortion, reproductive rights have been under fire in conservative US states. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is the latest issue to spark debate. In February, Alabama's Supreme Court declared that frozen embryos have the legal status of "unborn children". This decision, deemed outrageous by President Joe Biden, caused weeks of turmoil in IVF clinics. In May, the state's governor signed a law protecting doctors and patients from prosecution. Yet IVF remains under threat, as Alabama's pro-life conservative lawmakers are determined to impose restrictions on the procedure. FRANCE 24's Fanny Allard reports.
