Afghanistan: Underground radio station broadcasts lessons to girls stuck at home Since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, most girls have been banned from going to high school. But some women are resisting, like Hamida Aman, founder of Radio Begum. Against the rules, she has set up an underground school within her radio station. The girls, aged between 12 and 16, mainly come from the local neighbourhood to attend the lessons, which are broadcast on the airwaves. The curriculum is popular with girls who are stuck at home. Our France 2 colleagues report, with FRANCE 24's Catherine Khedir-Clifford, Wassim Cornet and Lauren Bain.
